The foundation stone of the school was laid by the then Commissioner of Orissa Mr. J. F. Gruning on 18.03.1919 and the school was named after the Emperor His Excellency George V of India and was known as George High English School. The newly constructed school building was inaugurated by Hon. Commissioner Mr. J.F. Gruning on 16.01.1922.
